Inside Higgsfield #1: How We Built Cinema Studio

Higgsfield's blog post "Inside Higgsfield #1" tells how Cinema Studio began with Sula's test. A 21:9 frame with real camera names in the prompt looked more cinematic, and his kangaroo fight clip passed a million views in days. The idea is to set up a shot the way a cinematographer does, by choosing a camera, a lens and a focal length. Danil Kim's team dropped any combination that working camera operators flagged as looking like AI. The first version shipped on 18 December 2025. After a turbulent 3.0 in April, version 3.5 arrived ten days later with genre-based camera control and video-first generation. Its AI Director later became a separate product, Supercomputer.

What is said
★ — how much it matters to the source.
- ★★ Higgsfield describes Cinema Studio as its AI filmmaking tool, an interface of cameras, optics and focal lengths curated by a former director of photography and built on interchangeable video models; five versions shipped in its first six months. · Cinema Studio
- ★★ When an image model that changed the market came out in November 2025, Higgsfield's whole creative team tested it, its standard procedure for such releases; Sula, one of its creatives, noticed everyone generating in 3:4 and 4:3.
- ★ Sula says that scrolling Twitter, where the creators are, he saw nobody generating in 21:9.
- ★★★ In Sula's test, a frame built in the 21:9 cinema format and animated came out richer and more cinematic, and writing the names of real cameras into the prompt worked too.
- ★★★ By lunchtime Sula had a finished clip of a kangaroo squaring up for a fight in an octagon; it passed a million views in a couple of days, and the team decided it had to become a product urgently. · Cinema Studio
- ★★ Axultan, Higgsfield's product lead, says that when he tried to repeat Sula's kangaroo clip the same way, he got slop.
- ★★ Higgsfield's prompt engineers took Sula's prompts apart line by line and found them unusually heavy with technical terms about cameras, optics and light rather than the scene or story; one camera brand name kept coming up.
- ★★★ Higgsfield says top video models trained on decades of cinema already hold its visual language, so a prompt naming a specific camera and lens lands more precisely than asking in ordinary words for something beautiful.
- ★★★ Higgsfield says the idea of Cinema Studio is to build a frame as a cinematographer would, picking a camera, a lens and a focal length, instead of describing a look in words. · Cinema Studio
- ★★ Higgsfield says it hired directors, cinematographers and editors from the film industry long before Cinema Studio, and its creative team is now around 200 people. · Higgsfield AI, Cinema Studio
- ★★ The first version of Cinema Studio kept three settings out of everything a cinematographer touches on set: camera, lens and focal length; light, filters and movement were cut. · Cinema Studio
- ★★ Choosing what Cinema Studio kept fell to Danil Kim, Higgsfield's creative team lead, a director of photography for years who used to deliver camera equipment to real film sets. · Cinema Studio
- ★★★ Danil Kim and the prompt engineers ran camera and lens combinations through the model and sent the footage to working camera operators, asking whether it looked AI; whatever failed was dropped from Cinema Studio, including legendary lenses the model could not reproduce. · Cinema Studio
- ★★ Early on nearly every lens looked the same in generation, so the Cinema Studio team went lens by lens, pulled out each lens's character and amplified it, in places exaggerated it, until choosing one lens over another changed the shot. · Cinema Studio
- ★★ Danil Kim says generating is not the same as shooting with a real camera and real optics, so the team looked for each lens's character and amplified it.
- ★ Assylzhan, Higgsfield's product designer, built Cinema Studio's camera switcher: open the camera picker, roll the wheel, match a lens to the camera and a focal length to the lens, like loading a real rig. · Cinema Studio
- ★★ Kuanysh, a Higgsfield software engineer, built tracing in Cinema Studio: a generation's settings and metadata travel with the image, so using that frame as the start of a video carries the whole look over. · Cinema Studio
- ★★★ The first version of Cinema Studio shipped on 18 December 2025, with camera movement and slow motion added with help from film-industry operators. · Cinema Studio
- ★★ Cinema Studio 1.5 added aperture as a fourth core control and recommended camera presets; versions 2 and 2.5 added Elements, 3D Scene, Character Motions, locations and Soul Cinema, moving from a single frame toward whole scenes. · Cinema Studio 2, Elements, Soul Cinema, Cinema Studio
- ★★★ Higgsfield says Cinema Studio 3.0 shipped in April at the start of the industry's rush to integrate a new state-of-the-art video model, became the most turbulent release in the product's history, and it did not like some of its decisions afterward.
- ★★★ Because Cinema Studio's cameras, lenses and lens character were not tied to one model, version 3.5 shipped ten days after 3.0, open to everyone, with no preset breaking when the core model changed. · Cinema Studio
- ★★★ Because the new model generated long multi-shot scenes, Cinema Studio 3.5 moved camera control up to genre (cutting like action or holding like drama) and added video-first generation: set camera, lens, focal length and aperture and shoot straight to video.
- ★★ Higgsfield says that when a video model can carry a full multi-shot scene there is no reason to make a still and then animate it: shoot straight to video.
- ★ Higgsfield says users come in with prompts three words long or physically impossible, such as "generate me a 50-shot battle scene in 15 seconds", and without the enhancer they burn credits iterating blindly.
- ★★ Sabatovsky, an R&D prompt engineer at Higgsfield, says the enhancer he builds should give a good result on the first batch with little effort, the fourth at worst.
- ★★ Projects arrived in Cinema Studio 3.5: like a cinematographer's equipment package, a project (a 90s action movie, a western) holds the light, optics and tempo across every generation inside it, so the style is chosen once.
- ★★ Higgsfield kept the old Cinema Studio versions because users asked to keep generating on 2.5, a request brought in by Gani, who leads its Discord community; version selection now lives inside the tool. · Discord, Cinema Studio
- ★ Higgsfield says work made with Cinema Studio is now featured in Higgsfield Originals. · Cinema Studio, Higgsfield Originals
- ★ Axultan: Asked which director he would want on the next Cinema Studio version, Axultan names Nolan, saying they approach creation in a similar way. · Cinema Studio
- ★ Axultan also names Damien Chazelle, whose very alive films he calls useful experience for making the living out of the lifeless.
-
★★★ Axultan: Asked whether Higgsfield built a tool that kills art, Axultan says it changed who gets the right to make art: making a film always meant commanding capital, and cinema's gatekeeping was financial, not creative.
“We didn't kill art. We changed who gets the right to make it.”
-
★★ Axultan grants that models and compute cost money too, but says the gap between a studio and one person shrinks every year.
- ★★★ Axultan expects that within the decade AI tools become invisible, the way nobody notices film or digital, and that cheaper creation brings a huge wave of art, mostly forgotten, the best by people not yet known.
- ★★★ Higgsfield's bet for Cinema Studio is that one person with taste, patience and a tool that speaks the language of cinema can make a genuinely good film start to finish; nobody on the team thinks everyone is about to become a director. · Cinema Studio
- ★★★ AI Director, introduced in Cinema Studio 3.5 to take technical work off the filmmaker, outgrew Cinema Studio and became a separate product, Supercomputer. · Supercomputer, Cinema Studio
- ★★ Higgsfield says the story of Supercomputer is the next Inside Higgsfield story. · Supercomputer
